Soil compaction is a serious detriment to the health of your turf. Seasonal aeration along with overseeding will provide lush green grass for years to come.
Aeration is essential to the health of your lawn. Core aeration is done with a machine (a lawn aerator) with hollow tines which mechanically removes plugs or "cores" of soil and thatch from a lawn. The plugs will be at least 1/2" to 3/4" in diameter. Core aeration reduces soil compaction by creating a channel through which oxygen, water, and nutrients can penetrate into the soil - all of this will help make your lawn more drought tolerant - which here in Florida is very beneficial!
After your lawn has been aerated, we recommend you overseed. Overseeding is simply spreading seed throughout your lawn. Doing this immediately following aeration allows the seed to have direct contact with soil. The seed will then germinate. Overseeding has many purposes: it will fill in bare spots, increase the thickness of your lawn as well as prevent disease.
